Complaints Commission seeks amendment of establishment Act

The Chief Federal Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Mr Abimbola Ayo-Yusuf, says the commission is liaising with the National Assembly to amend the Act establishing it for enhanced service delivery.

Ayo-Yusuf, who disclosed this during a one-day official visit to Ebonyi on Friday, said it was pertinent to amend the law establishing the PCC to conform with the present realities.

“Public Complaints Commission is an anti-corruption agency and was constituted under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

“We are working with the National Assembly to amend the Act.

“This is a Commission that was established more than 16 years ago and the Act has never been amended; so, we want to amend it to conform to the present realities.

“PCC is not going to remain a toothless bulldog, we want to make sure we can bite,” he said.

The chief commissioner further said that the commission was poised to resolving all issues relating to staff welfare to enhance their productivity.

He said that the commission was moving to another level with the determination not to allow anything to stop it.

Earlier, Mr Donald Chukwu, the Federal Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi in his remarks, applauded Ayo-Yusuf for the visit to Ebonyi.

He said that the visit was timely and in order, saying that ”It is a good and responsible father that will always reach out to his children to ask after their welfare”.

Chukwu lauded the chief commissioner for his efforts in ensuring that the PCC Act was amended to conform to the present realities and yearnings of the justice system.

“I am also aware of your determination to improving on the reception of complaints by the Ombudsman in Nigeria through the establishment of desk centres for prompt responses to petitions and complaints brought before the commission in different states,” he said.

Chukwu said that within the few months of his assumption of duty, the commission had carried out massive awareness programmes across Ebonyi through the mass media.
