Over N1 billion has been raised at a fund raising event on Saturday organised by the Jigawa State Committee on flood damage assessment, saddled with fund raising, palliative distribution, and establishment of state flood trust fund.
The funds were raised during the opening of its appeal fund in Dutse with the intention of helping the state’s flood victims.
Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar MON, mni, the state governor and main host of the event, announced that N250 million had been contributed by the state government and that N25 million had been donated by himself and family on behalf of the Talamis Group of Companies.
Additionally, Alhaji Abdul-samad Isyaka Rabiu of BUA company donated N200 million, while Alhaji Aminu Dantata’s Company pledged to contribute another N200 million .
Dangote, who was unavoidably absent, wrote a note to the committee letting them know to expect his donation shortly and expressing his sympathy to the state, especially the flood victims all around the state.
Jigawa State Governor Badaru expressed his sincere gratitude to the donors and encouraged the committee to distribute the palliatives and funds raised judiciously.
The committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Dalhatu (Wazirin Dutse), responded by thanking the government, organizations, companies and individuals who donated money and goods to the flood victims.
He also pledged that not a single kobo will be overlooked during the distribution of aid to the state’s affected citizens.
Members of the state’s House of Assembly and their counterparts from the National Assembly, 27 local government chairmen, Zenith Bank, Jaiz Bank, FCMB, Sterling Bank, GT Bank, Unity Bank, Gerawa Company, and other businesses, organizations, and people are among those who donated.
