…Eko club inducts Hamzat, others as new members
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, emphasised the vital role of social clubs in national development during an induction ceremony for new members of the Eko Club, held on Sunday in Surulere.
He urged these organisations to unite with government bodies to achieve shared goals and enhance overall societal welfare.
Dr. Hamzat noted that social clubs can help bridge gaps in communication and understanding, enabling government messages to reach more citizens effectively.
“As the government strives to maximise overall welfare, social clubs can cater to the unique needs and aspirations of diverse groups,” he stated.
Underlining the integral part that social clubs play in promoting national consensus and shared values, he said, “By networking, engaging in skill development, and fostering community initiatives, social clubs can substantially impact national development and promote a more cohesive society.”
The Deputy Governor acknowledged the significance of the Eko Club in fostering social cohesion and constructive community dialogue.
“These clubs have facilitated meaningful dialogue and collective action, enriching society and driving positive change. They provide a platform for people from varied backgrounds to come together, fostering understanding and promoting civic engagement,” he added.
Congratulating the Eko Club on its 50th anniversary, Hamzat recognised the club’s ongoing contributions to social and cultural exchanges, calling it a catalyst for positive change in the community.
He urged the newly inducted 40 members to embrace the club’s values and actively contribute to its mission of continuous improvement.
In his welcome address, Eko Club President, Mr. Razaak Olugbenga Amodu, reflected on the club’s unique status as a socio-cultural hub in Africa, fostering unity and friendship. He praised Deputy Governor Hamzat, describing him as a “trustworthy, committed, and dependable partner” to the governor, and emphasised the importance of the club’s continued growth and influence.
The highlight of the event was the induction of Dr. Hamzat himself as member number 1493, marking a new chapter in the club’s rich history. As the ceremony concluded, attendees expressed optimism that the new inductees would inspire further progress and uphold the legacies of those before them.
