Coalition of health professionals begin indefinite strike over poor welfare

A Coalition of Nasarawa State Health Professionals Association (CNSHPA) have began an indefinite strike over poor welfare.

Spokesperson of CNSHPA, Mr Kyari Caleb  who is also the Chairman, Association of Medical laboratory Scientists of Nigeria made this known while briefing journalists on Monday in Lafia.

“All members of the association in all tertiary health facilities in the state have withdrawn their services with effect from Monday, June 7, till further notice.

“The decision to embark on the strike, was a collective one. Our members will  continue to stay at home until the government does the needful.

“Some of our demands include, promotions, failure to implement N30, 000 minimum wage for members and lack of annual increment among others.

“We have been patient with government for a long while,” he said.

He said that in June 2020, the union embarked on a strike over the same issues.

“The coalition and government signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with a promise to begin implementation of  our demands but unfortunately up till now the government has not kept its word since 2020,” he said.

In a swift reaction, the Head of Service of Nasarawa state, Mr Nicholas Aboki  appealed to the unions to suspend their strike, adding that the government was working hard to improve their welfare.
