CNG: Presidential committee to commence nationwide deployment May 29

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, PCNGI, has announced a series of activities leading to a nationwide deployment on May 29.

This is sequel to the directive of President Bola Tinubu that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDAs should begin the mandatory procurement of compressed natural gas-powered vehicles.

A statement by Michael Oluwagbemi, Programme Director and Chief Executive of the Initiative, on Wednesday in Abuja, said President Tinubu will between May 15 and 22 embark on the virtual commissioning of critical gas supply projects at NNPCL.

He said; “As part of our commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions and reducing carbon emissions, PCNGI is embarking on an extensive pre-launch itinerary aimed at engaging stakeholders, showcasing critical gas supply projects, and facilitating the conversion and refueling infrastructure across the nation.”

Oluwagbemi said that the PCNGI would engage stakeholders from Oyo, Ogun and Lagos on May 15 while those from the South South and South East would have theirs on May 17, and the following day the committee will launch the South South Affiliate Conversion and Refueling Center in Port Harcourt.

According to him, between May 22 and 30, the presidential committee would have a combined engagement with stakeholders from Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara, inspect the Kojo Factory at Enugu-Onitsha Site where it will receive cylinders and kits, as well as the first Set of assembled tricycles and buses.

“These activities mark significant milestones in our journey towards achieving energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and economic prosperity for Nigeria. PCNGI is committed to fostering collaboration with all stakeholders as we pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.

“These programmes are a fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to drive Nigeria’s energy transition in the transportation sector leveraging CNG and enabling economic growth”, Oluwagbemi added.
