CLO decries “very low’’ compliance to COVID-19 safety protocols in Anambra
The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has decried the `very low’ compliance to COVID-19 safety protocols in Anambra since the second wave of the pandemic started.
The Chairman of its Anambra chapter, Mr Vincent Ezekwueme, made the observation when he spoke with newsmen in Enugu on Friday.
Ezekwueme said that there had been “very low’’ compliance in terms of wearing of face masks and limiting numbers of people at social gatherings.
He blamed the escalation of new infections in the state on the people’s intransigence to adhering to the safety protocols.
“CLO calls on Anambra State government to marshal strategic plan towards curtailing increment of the dreadful and deadly pandemic ravaging both financial, spiritual, health and wealth of the global community.
“CLO is outraged by the disdainful disregard of safety protocols by the vast majority of residents of the state.
“It is most disheartening and despicable that in spite of unprecedented campaigns, sensitisation and education of citizens on strict observation of the COVID-19 prevention protocols, they are observed in the breach.
“We appeal to Gov. Willie Obiano to summon emergency health summit with the Nigeria Medical Association, religion, traditional, civil society leaders and market leaders in attendance to proffer solution to the intransigence,’’ he said.
“Ignorance is the greatest impediment towards the stoppage of COVID-19.
“Conceited efforts should be made towards aggressive enlightenment of residents on the horrendous pandemic and the need to prevent its escalation,’’ Ezekwueme added.
