CIoTA set for 6th National Transport Conference, AGM

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) has announced its plans to host the 6th National Transport Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 12-13, 2024, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.
This event aims to bring together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s transport sector to address the theme “Sustainable Transportation in a Disruptive Era: The Challenges of Developing Economies.”
CIoTA’s statement emphasized its commitment to fostering professional standards in Nigeria’s transportation sector. As the country’s leading chartered body for transport professionals, CIoTA provides training, membership, and certification to drive excellence in transport administration across Nigeria.
Professor Gbadebo Odewunmi highlighted pressing challenges, noting, “Despite Nigeria’s extensive transport system, there is no comprehensive national transport policy.”
He called for CIoTA’s continued advocacy to push relevant authorities toward establishing a cohesive policy, noting that over 90% of the nation’s goods and passengers rely on road transport.
Odewunmi also addressed the issue of road extortions, citing illegal tolls and fees imposed on drivers by enforcement agents.
CIoTA President Prince Segun Obayendo echoed these concerns, questioning the state of Nigeria’s transportation system.
