CIBN to relaunch mentoring scheme for young practitioners

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, (CIBN) says it has concluded arrangements to relaunch its Mentoring Scheme, to develop capacity of young practitioners in the Banking and Finance Industry.

The Head, Marketing/ Corporate Communication and External Relations,  Mr. Nelson Olagundoye in a statemet on Thursday said that a virtual event with theme, “Mentoring: Unlocking Career Potentials and Possibilities” , scheduled to hold Feb. 18, would address some of the needs and gaps identified in the industry.

“The CIBN Mentoring Scheme which was launched in 2012 was designed to enhance learning and career development for young bankers and to provide opportunity to strengthen the talent pipeline into senior leadership roles in the banking and finance industry.

“The relaunch is necessitated by the fact that the scheme has been fortified and enriched with more features for the benefit of participants.

“The enhanced scheme which runs on a mobile responsive, user-friendly application went live on June 17, 2020, with over 600 mentors and mentees, while more are being on-boarded,”he said.

Olagundoye said the relaunch was being coordinated by the CIBN Mentoring Advisory Committee , under the leadership of Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo, former Managing Director/CEO, Fidelity Bank Plc.

According to him, seasoned professionals from the financial services and allied sector of the economy, are to address the  gathering.

The professionals, he said, include Mr John Obaro, Founder and CEO of Systemspecs; and Mrs Lowo-Adesola Oluyemisi Abidemi, HCIB MD/Head Financial Institution Africa, Standard Chartered Bank Ltd.

Olagundoye said that Mrs Nneka Okekearu, Deputy Director, Enterprise Development Centre, Pan Atlantic University, would deliver the keynote address.

He said that the event would attract Mr Lamido Yuguda, Director-General Securities and Exchange Commission and Mr Tijjani M. Borodo, HCIB, FIoD, former Company Secretary, FBN Holdings Plc, Currently Partner, Tijjani M Borodo & Associates, Legal Practitioners, as guests of honor.

Mr Bayo Olugbemi, FCIB President/Chairman of Council, CIBN, the Chief Host, is expected to present a special address at the event.
