Choice of Odusile, TASUED VC as Commissioner nominees excite Ogun Assembly during screening

The Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo on Monday commended the governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his choice of Alhaji Waheed Odusile, the immediate past National President of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu as Commissioner-nominees for Information and Education respectively.

Hon Olakunle Oluomo, during the screening of Odusile and Arigbabu by the assembly on Monday lauded Gov Abiodun for picking the two accomplished professionals in their respective field of journalism and education saying that they correctly fitted the appellation of round pegs in round holes.

The Speaker has therefore urged the two Commissioners designates to use their wealth of experience to support the government of Prince Abiodun in his determined bid to make life a lot easier and better for the residents of the state.

Speaking during the screening, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy designate for the state, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Odusile has called on Nigerians especially those at the helms of affairs never to hoard information from journalists as this may open up room for rumours and insinuations.

Odusile who stated this while fielding questions from members of the Ogun State House of Assembly said, “if you hide information from journalists, he/she will believe there is skeleton in your cupboard and may decide to go to any length to bring out issues”.

He said, “don’t look down on any journalist or underrate any reporter. Give him the right information and he would do his job professionally”.

Speaking on his intended efforts to improve the fortunes of the State owned Radio and Television stations, the Commissioner designate assured that he would do all in his capacity to address the constraints and challenges facing the stations while affirming that the management and staffers of the stations are thorough bred professionals who must be hugely supported.

Describing news as a perishable good whose lifespan is just 24 hours, the Commissioner Nominee said, “we must dish out right information at the right time and get to the news room first to avoid rumours that would naturally fill the space”.

The journalism guru who emphasized the importance of feedback and constructive criticism said the information gamut of government would strengthen the existing system to ensure that facts and truths are always presented to the Governor.

Prof Abayomi Arigbabu in his submission to the house during the screening pledged to use his wealth of experience to reposition the education sector and make it centre of excellence and innovation in a bid to restore the lost glory of yesteryears.
