Chevron Nigeria Limited has been named the 2024 Energy Company of the Year by NewsDirect newspaper. The prestigious award was presented during the 14th Nigerian NewsDirect Lecture and Award Ceremony, held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

The event, themed “Achieving Economic Prosperity: The Role of Human Capacity Development, Fiscal Prudence, and Revenue Generation,” attracted prominent figures from various sectors, including government officials, business leaders, and heads of financial institutions.

Chevron’s Manager of Communications, Victor Chimaobi Anyaegbudike, received the award on behalf of the company and expressed his gratitude to Nigerian NewsDirect for the recognition. He noted that the award would serve as motivation for Chevron to continue contributing to the energy sector.

Anyaegbudike highlighted Chevron’s recent achievements, including a significant near-field oil discovery in Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) 49, located in the shallow offshore region of the Western Niger Delta. The successful drilling of the Mejji NW-1 well, which reached a depth of 8,983 feet, uncovered approximately 690 feet of hydrocarbons within Miocene sands. This discovery is expected to produce up to 17,000 barrels of oil per day.

Chevron operates PML 49 in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) through the NNPC-CNL Joint Venture. The company is one of the largest oil producers and investors in Nigeria, with extensive interests in both onshore and offshore assets in the Niger Delta and deepwater operations such as the Agbami and Usan fields.

Other notable recipients at the event included Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, as well as the Ministers of Power and Marine and Blue Economy. Renowned businessman Alhaji Aliko Dangote was also honoured.
