Chartered Institute of Taxation urges students to pursue taxation career — President
Dame Simplice, the President, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), on Wednesday, in Lagos, urged students to pursue a career in taxation as it would opens doors to success.
Simplice, who said this in a statement, added that taxation was both exciting and a pivot upon which developed countries of the world depended to raise revenues for development, adding that it was incumbent on all adult citizens, who earned income, to pay their accurate taxes as and when due.
“Recently, CITN organised a ‘Tax Quiz Competition’ for secondary schools, in collaboration with Egghead Management, as part of the Institute’s “Catch them Young” initiative aimed at helping to create awareness among the younger generation,” She said.
Simplice said that beyond encouraging scholarship and the award of prizes to outstanding participants at the competition, “Our primary objective is to encourage an interest in taxation in young Nigerians at an early stage,” she said.
Prof. Ezekiel Williams, Director of Eggheads Management Consultants assured CITN of their readiness to sponsor the 2022 edition, stressing that his organisation would continue to contribute towards tax awareness and compliance in the society.
“If concrete steps are not taken, to inculcate tax paying culture on the younger generation, it will be difficult for government to meet its obligation to the people,” he said.
It was reported that David Ogbanga of Archdeacon Brown Education Center, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, emerged as the winner of the first Rivers State All Secondary School Tax Quiz CITN.
Doris Ifunanyachukwu, Eggshead International School, Port Harcourt, was the first runner-up, while the second runner up was Filima Dinebari, Mercy Girls High School, Port Harcourt.
