Chartered Institute of Taxation tasks government to account for taxpayers fund

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has called both Federal and state governments to account for taxpayers money in a transparent manner.

The Chairman of CITN Abuja District Society, Dr. Kennedy Iwundu made the appeal during his opening remark at the 2023 CITN Abuja Tax Week on Thursday.

He said, “The tax week is part of our activities which has come to stay and has created awareness for taxepayers as well as government agencies who manage taxepayers money.

“Tax week is a an opportunity to remind the government that taxepayers fund should be accounted for in a transparent manner to build trust and encourage citizens to pay more.

“The activities is in recognition of the businesses and organisations that are are proud to promote responsible taxes conduct and a celebration of the positive contribution that makes our society.

“Taxes week activities are planed to recognize taxes Legislators, tax administrators, tax practitioners as well as other tax professionals who contributed greatly to tax law reforms and implementation in the country.

He emphasised that tax week also create awareness for those who dodge  paying tax to know that it’s their Civic responsibility which every citizens to abide with.

Dr. Iwundu stressed that the theme ‘Tax Reform, Digitalisation and its impact on businesses in Nigeria’ coming at the right time and will be discussed extensively during the session.

The Chairman tasked the participants to make valuable contributions which it will deepen the knowledge of tax reforms in the country.
