Chapter Chairman, ASUP was placed on half salary amid suspension — OAGF
The office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has said Chapter Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Lagos, Remi Ajiboye was placed on half salary amid his suspension by the institution.
OAGF had introduced IPPIS for payment of tertiary institutions staff salaries and allowances.
However, Ajiboye in a chat with press (not Nigerian NewsDirect) had said, “The government is killing us gradually with this IPPIS of a thing. The salary has become an undulating object. You only get whatever catches the fancy of those in the IPPIS office. There was a month I was paid N4,000 as monthly salary.”
The Director, IPPIS, at the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr Nsikak Ben in his response through an advertorial disclosed that Ajiboye was placed under suspension by the Polytechnic, disclosing that Ajiboye was had two major deductions; one of which was Yabatech Cooperative Society deduction and statutory deductions.
Ben stated that , “It is not surprising that as it has become the custom with leaders of association in the country’s tertiary institutions, Mr. Remi Ajiboye would find every opportunity to speak negative about the IPPIS.
“The office of the Accountant General of the federation however finds it rather hard to believe that a senior lecturer and chairman of an Academic staff Union of a renown tertiary institution like Mr. Remi Ajiboye could muster the courage to tell the whole world that IPPIS paid him N4,000 as his monthly salary when he was fully aware of the circumstances that led to it.
“Office of the Accountant General of the federation wishes to state clearly the circumstances that led to Mr. Remi Ajiboye being paid N4,709.73 as net pay in April 2020.
“He was placed on suspension with half pay by the institution, which implied that he was to earn half (50 per cent) of his salary for the period of his suspension.
“He also had two major deductions; one of which was Yabatech Cooperative Society deduction; in addition to the statutory deductions.”
He said the suspended ASUP chairman was economical with the truth and intentionally made the allegation to blackmail IPPIS, the OAGF, and the Federal government.
According to him, “He was bold enough to tell the media that there was a month he was paid N4,000 as monthly salary , but was not sincere enough to tell the media that he was on suspension with half pay and was placed on half salary by the institution coupled with non-statutory deductions of cooperative loans totalling N123,467.47 and other loans aside other statutory deductions resulting in a net pay of N4,709.73.”
He added that, “In publishing the controversial and misleading report without contacting the OAGF for clarification on the issue; the media organizations displayed lack of professionalism; relegated to the background the successes that the IPPIS has recorded and undermined the Federal Government’s commitment to instilling efficiency in the management of public payroll system.
“The OAGF wishes to state categorically that the IPPIS does not make deductions from the salary of any government employee except such as has been approved by the law or sanctioned by relevant authorities.
“The OAGF is committed to ensuring a more transparent, efficient and effective management of the IPPIS.”
