Chairman distributes food palliatives to over 1,000 residents in Ojokoro LCDA

In a bid to alleviate the economic hardships faced by residents of Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Executive Chairman, Hon. Hammed Idowu Tijani, spearheaded the distribution of food items as palliatives to more than one thousand individuals on Saturday.

This initiative aims to complement the efforts of the Lagos state government in mitigating the effects of the rising cost of food items across the country.

During the distribution event, Hon. Tijani emphasised the challenges posed by Nigeria’s current economic state and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the community.

He highlighted the provision of staple foods such as rice, beans, and spaghetti, which were distributed free of charge for the second time in recent months.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Tijani underscored the collaborative efforts between his administration and the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Olushola Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He commended the state government’s initiatives, including the “Ounje Eko” program, aimed at providing subsidised food items to residents through Sunday community markets and the Lagos Food Hub.

The chairman also revealed that the special food palliative program was initiated in response to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s directive to simultaneously conduct similar interventions across all 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

This directive came ahead of the Eid-Fitr celebration, recognising the challenges faced by Muslim faithfuls in the community.

Prior to this distribution, Hon. Tijani’s administration had undertaken various empowerment initiatives, including skill acquisition training for over seventy women and youths through the Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).

Additionally, free basic healthcare services were provided for seven days at six Primary Health Care (PHC) centers, covering treatments for malaria, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other minor illnesses.

The event witnessed the presence of key figures including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oladipupo Coker, Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Tunde Oyekunle, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kolajo Omisore, Council Manager, Dr. Adebola Adeyemi, and APC Chairman in the LCDA, Hon. Jelili Oseni, among others.
