The Zamfara State Sexual Assault Referral Center has recorded 209 sexual assault cases in the last two years, its Coordinator, Ahmad Shehu, has said.
Shehu made the disclosure in Gusau on Tuesday when he received officials of the State Technical Working Group (TWG) on Social Protection who paid advocacy visit to the center.
The coordinator said that the 209 cases were received from February 2019 to February 2021.
According to him, the center was established by an NGO, Justice for All, and is being supported by the state ministries of justice, health and that of women and children affairs.
Earlier, the chairman of the state TWG on Social Protection, Alhaji Kabiru Gayari said the visit was to assess activities of the center and engage it for necessary support.
Gayari, who is the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Budget and Economic Planning, lamented over the condition of the center and called for its improvement.
