In a significant push towards expanding financial inclusion in Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has urged for a decisive pledge to reach a 95 percent financial inclusion target.
This call to action was made during the launch of the Access to Financial Services in Nigeria (A2F) 2023 survey conducted by Efina, which took place in Lagos.
Governor Cardoso, who was represented by Chibuike Nwaegerue, the Director of Other Financial Institutions (OFIs) at the CBN, emphasised the importance of this initiative.
He stressed that financial institutions across the country should take proactive steps by establishing dedicated units within their organisations to focus on increasing access to financial services.
The A2F 2023 survey’s unveiling event served as a platform for the CBN governor to highlight the central bank’s commitment to financial inclusion as a means to stimulate economic growth and development.
The push for a 95 percent inclusion rate is seen as a critical step towards ensuring that more Nigerians have access to essential financial services, which is fundamental to their participation in the economy.
The governor’s representative, Mr. Nwaegerue, reiterated the CBN’s dedication to this cause and called on financial institutions to align with the central bank’s vision.
The establishment of dedicated units is expected to drive innovation and tailor services to meet the diverse needs of the Nigerian population, particularly those who are currently underserved by the financial system.
