Career expert, Njideaka charges women to advance their career with technology

A career expert, Ayopeju Njideaka, has charged Nigerian women to make use of technology in advancing their careers.

Njideaka gave the charge on Thursday in Osogbo, Osun state capital, at a day summit organized by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in conjunction with USCIS to empower women both in and outside power sector in the state, said the world has gone technology which they have to take the step for their advancement.

She urged the women in the power sector to step out to seek for knowledge that can assist their careers, saying that IBEDC has many things to support them to achieve greater position in their careers.

According to her, the platform is there for women in IBEDC, they have mentors, they have coaches. But they don’t step out and nobody is going to push them out to learn.

“The focus of today programme is that women should not be limited when we are talking about leadership. In power sector which is very male dominated. But we are saying that one of the reason is not because women have been discriminated against but because they have not even empowered themselves.

“We are saying instead of sitting and thinking that in this industry we cannot go past some way which is mindset and we saying that no, empower yourself and we are sure that you will get to the place you’re supposed to get to.

“We have shared a lot about how they can make progress in their careers and from there they can get to the peak of their careers,” she added.

Speaking, the head branding and corporate communications for IBEDC, Mrs Angela Olarewaju said that the programme was organised to empower women both in and outside the sector.

She further said that the the company partnered with USCIS in 2015 on gender equality to ensure that they strong multifaceted and diverse workforce.

Olarewuju noted that the Covid has affected the yearly programme which said that the company will continue to organize the programme to assist the women.

“We have this DisCo for women, which is discussing issues surrounding career opportunities for women because we want our women to be empowered to have the ambition to have the know how and every skill required for them.”

“Everything here is geared towards making women have the necessary skills, the motivation, the background and knowledge they require to make their career,” she said.
