Car dealer, docked over N1.7m car fraud

A 32-year-old man, Adeife Sijuade, was brought before an Abeokuta Magistrate Court on Friday for defrauding one Mr. Adedolapo Adewale of N1.7 million under the guise that he sells a Toyota Camry car to him

The defendant whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Asp Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in February 2022 at Abeokuta.

Shonibare said the defendant, who is a car dealer, obtained N1.725 million from Adewale under the guise that he would sell a Toyota Camry car to him, which he failed.

He explained that the defendant collected the money from the complainant and fraudulently converted it to his personal use.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 419  390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Ogun 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Olajumoke Somefun, granted the accused N300,000 bail with two Sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Jan. 16 for trial
