By Adeyanju Esther

On Monday, the Lagos Police Command arraigned Ibrahim Yakubu, a 49-year-old car dealer, at the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court on charges of fraud and theft.

Yakubu, whose address was not provided, faces a two-count charge of fraud and stealing. He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred in December 2022, at about 10:00 a.m., at No. 98 Timmy Jas, Agelaso, Badagry, Lagos. Ekpo stated that Yakubu is accused of fraudulently obtaining N1,150,000 from the complainant, Pan John, under the pretence of purchasing a Toyota Corolla car for him. Instead of buying the car, Yakubu allegedly converted the money for his own use.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case was adjourned until August 18, 2024, for the commencement of the hearing.

Chief Magistrate Mr. A.J. Aina granted Yakubu bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be gainfully employed.
