Call Oniraniken to order within seven days or we resort to self help— Ewusi of Makun tells Gov. Abiodun

Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The Ewusi of Makun, Sagamu, Oba Timothy Oyesola Akinsanya has urged the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of urgency, within seven days stop the incessant attacks against his people at Okerala, Oko-Iwaju, Kanuyi, Ipa among other 20 communities under his kingdom by some daredevil landgrabbers allegedly being sponsored by Oniraniken of Iraniken, Sagamu, Oba Adewale Adeniji.

Oba Timothy Akinsanya during a press briefing at his palace on Friday said that if the state government would refuse to help stop this criminal invasion of these communities by the landgrabbers allegedly being sponsored by Oniraniken of Iraniken, Sagamu, his people would be left with no other choice than to rise to the occasion themselves and put the hoodlums where they belong.

The first class monarch said “this matter has been in the public domain for some time now, we had in the recent past reported the matter on several occasions to the Akarigbo and Paramount ruler of Remo land, Oba Adewale Babatunde Ajayi, we did a petition to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who directed the Bureau of Lands to intervene. We have also been invited alongside Oba Adewale Adeniji by Committee on Land Matters of Ogun State House of Assembly for facts finding yet nothing concrete has come out from all these peaceful moves.”

Oba Akinsanya explained further that “annoyingly, we were informed that the unlawful act repeated itself recently when hundreds of hoodlums again stormed our community at Simawa, leaving several injured. To this end, we are set to help ourselves if the government of the day would not rescue our people from being terrorized, dehumanized and maimed by those set of criminals who are acting as if they are agents of the government.”

The monarch said, “We are all gathered here today to announce to the Ogun State government that if nothing is being done to rescue Makun community, Sagamu from this unacceptable and criminal acts, we shall be staging a peaceful protest that shall lock down Sagamu township in the next seven days.”

The traditional ruler said the over 5,000 hectares of farmland which Oba Adewale Adeniji is claiming to be his own, and the basis for which he had allegedly been using the daredevil landgrabbers to terrorise residents of over 20 communities belong to Makun people.

He said he would therefore not allow an inch of his forebear’s heritage to be taken away by an alleged landgrabber parading himself as king.

Oba Akinsanya has therefore urged the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force, Usman Alkali to do all that is within his capacity to ensure that a looming communal clash that may further aggravate the country’s challenge of insecurity is averted.

Dignitaries present at the press briefing include: Chief Solomon Oguntade, Baale of Okerala Odofin, Chief Jamiu Bello, Baale of Okerala Itamogun, Chief Nojeem Mabawonku, Baale of Igbo Iwaju, Chief Soneye, Alhaji Jamiu Olododo, Otunba Kayode Howells, Secretary of Ewusi Traditional Council among other members of Makun communities, Sagamu.
