Nigeria’s NPFL Champion,Rivers United FC Wednesday at Adokiye Amiesamaka Stadium vented their anger on the visiting El-Nasr FC of Benghazi-

Libya, humiliating them 5-0 in first round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
It was a goal galore for the infuriated home lads who were still licking their wounds from their encounter with Wydad FC of Morocco in the CAF Champions League,as Ebube Duru opened the floodgate of goals in the keenly contested encounter. He later struck again.

Kazie Enyinnaya scored the second goal,Paul Acquah followed suit and Malachi Ohawume sealed the hope of the North Africans with the fifth goal.

All efforts made by the visitors to pull back at least one was thwarted by the defensive prowess of the Eguma tutored defenders.

Reacting to the outcome of the game after the encounter, Technical Manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma thanked God for the victory. He recalled how his team was ousted in the CAF Championship by Wydad ,another North African team, describing the victory as well deserved.

The Coach however retorted that it is not yet uhuru,as they still have to go to Tripoli for a return fixtures.

“We thank God for the victory and I commend my boys for playing to instructions. The last experience we had in Morocco with Wydad was not pleasant, but we thank God that they have put that experience behind them and today’s outcome with El-Nasr is proof to that. We just have to work harder to sustain the tempo,” the Coach said.

For the visitors’ Coach,Zoran Milinkonic, it was a bitter experience, but he said he just had to stay with his team.

He admitted that Rivers United was a better side in the encounter, hence the woeful defeat.

“The was hard to digest. It was really a poor performance on the part of my players. Everything was against us today, the situation is difficult, but all hope is not lost,”the Coach consoled himself.##
