C/River Deputy Speaker calls for peace over political crisis
Mr Joseph Bassey, Deputy Speaker, Cross River House of Assembly, has called on residents of the state to shun political thuggery in the area and embrace peace.
This is contained in a statement on Wednesday in Calabar, by Bassey himself.
Bassey, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency, said there was no gain in destroying political billboards and properties of opponents in the area by party supporters.
“I am deeply saddened by the recent unrest in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state, perpetuated by some unidentified hoodlums which led to the destruction of properties.
“If we do not have peace and harmony, achieving political strength, economic stability, and cultural growth will be impossible.
“Peace is the path we take in bringing growth and prosperity to the society.
“I, therefore, sue for peace and urge all constituents to remain calm as necessary modalities would be taken to investigate what led to the unrest in Akpabuyo,” he said.
