Businessman in court over alleged N1m visa fraud

 

A 30-year-old businessman, Rasheed Jinadu, was, on Wednesday, arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged visa fraud.
Jinadu, who resides at 4, Oloruntedo Street, Moshalashi, Alagbado, Lagos, is charged with conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 28, 2023 at Moshalashi Alagbado, Lagos.
Akeem said that the defendant introduced the complainant, Mr Abas Yusuf, to a visa agent, now at large, to secure an Egyptian visa and air ticket for him.
He said that the defendant paid about N1.1 million to the agent’s account for the purpose of securing a visa and procuring air ticket to Egypt.
The prosecutor said that all efforts by the complainant to get the visa or have his money refunded had failed.
Akeem said that the offences contravened Sections 314 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 24 for mention.
