The Police on Friday arraigned a businessman, Mustapha Yunusa, in a Masaka Chief Magistrates’ Court, Nasarawa, for allegedly defrauding his business partner of N640,000.
The defendant, a resident of Masaka, Nasarawa State, is facing trial for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
He, however, denied commiting the offence.
The prosecutor, Asp. Seem Frank, told the court that the complainant, Ibrahim Yakubu of KP Market Nasarawa, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Masaka on Dec. 18.
According to him, the complainant alleged that sometime in Dec. 2020, entrusted the sum of N640,000 to the defendant to assist him purchase animal feed.
He added that the defendant, instead of purchasing the animal feed, rather converted the money to his own personal use and all efforts to recover the money from him proved abortive.
He said the offence contravened the Penal Code.
The judge, Yakubu Dangana, however, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 and a reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Jan. 7.
