A businessman, Esalomi Maero was on Thursday docked in a Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, for alleged impersonation.
The police charged the defendant, a resident of Kubwa, Abuja with criminal trespass, giving false information, impersonation and using as genuine a forged document.
The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa told the court that the defendant trespassed into plot 62, Kubwa Annex layout and presented himself as the owner of the plot sometime in March.
Okpa alleged that the defendant deceived police investigators and used as genuine, a conveyance of provisional approved dated May 11, 2021 purportedly issued by Bwari Area Council.
Other documents are offer of terms of grant/conveyance of approval dated Nov.23, 2004 purportedly issued by Ministry for Federal Capital Territory and Abuja Bwari Area Council revenue receipts.
The prosecution counsel said that the documents were in favour of Tobore Ebiai in respect to Plot 62, Kubwa Extension Layout.
He said that the defendant used the forged documents as genuine in a bid to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 348, 140, 179 and 366 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Judge, Yahaya Sheshi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Sheshi said the surety must provide recent passport photographs, driver’s licence or national identity card and print out of bank verification number (BVN).
He adjourned the case until Jan.9 for hearing.
