An Area Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a bus conductor, Haruna Yau, 18, to six months imprisonment for breaking into a house and stealing N 80,000.
A panel of judges made up of Malam Sadqi Adam and Mr. Hyacenth Dolnanan, sentenced Yau after he pleaded guilty to the crime of housebreaking and theft and begged the court for leniency.
The magistrates gave the convict an option of N 20,000 fine.
They also ordered the convict to pay N 30,000 as compensation to the complainant or spend six months imprisonment in default of payment.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gowkat told the court that the case was reported at the Mista Ali Police station on Oct.18, by Insp. Timothy Yakubu.
The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation the convict confessed to have stolen the money from the complainant’s suitcase in his house.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 32 and 272 of the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
