Building Engineer arraign over allegedly fraud N1. 3m

A 36-year-old man, Adeniyi Emmanuel, on Friday, arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over allegedly fraud N1.3 million.

The Prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adesina, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 3, 2023 around 10:36 am at Iremo Area, Ile-Ife.

Adesina said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to obtaining goods under false pretence and fraudulent conversion.

He added that the defendant by false pretence and with intent to defraud obtained Purechem Electrical Wire.

Prosecutor explained that the defendant with false pretence obtained Prechem Electrical Wire that valued N1,300,000 from one Onu Ikechukwu, under the pretence that he will send the money to him through bank transfer which turned out to be false.

According to him, the defendant stole Purechem Electrical Wire valued N1,300,000 by converting the huge amount that belongs to Onu Ikechukwu to his own use.

Adesina said that the defendant on March 6, 2023 at the aforementioned area about 11:49 am at Ile-Ife took different types of Electrical Wire.

He expressed that the wire taken valued N600,000 from one Hope & Courage Company under the management of one Olasunbo Alabi with the pretence that he would send the money to him through bank transfer which turned out to be false.

The Prosecutor stated further that the offence contravened sections:383, 390(9),419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to five-count charge of: conspiracy, false pretence, fraudulent conversion and stealing.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, applied for the bail of his client in most Liberal term, pledged that the defendant would not jump bail, but would produce reliable sureties.

Magistrate Kike Adebayo granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N1.2 million with two sureties in like amount.

She also said that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and sureties addresses should be verified by Prosecutor.

She stated further that one of the sureties must be state worker of grade/level 12, which should be superior in position of Osun staff.

Adebayo ordered for his remand in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Service pending the perfection of his bail.

The case was adjourned until Aug 15, for mention.
