President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation.
According to the agency’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ama Umorem, the appointment is for four years.
She added that he may be reappointed for another four years in line with public service rules.
She said in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Mr. Nebeolisa Anaka, the appointment took effect from December 31st 2021.
Tahir, who was the General Manager Technical Standard and Inspectorate Services (TS&IS) in NEMSA, replaces the former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Peter O. Ewesor, whose second and final tenure expired on the 3rd of October 2021.
Tahir has 29 years of experience in the power sector. He joined the Federal Ministry of Power in 1993 and rose to the position of a Deputy Director Electrical Inspectorate Services Department from where he was transferred to NEMSA as the General Manger of TS/IS.
A Yobe-born graduate of Electrical Engineering from the Abubakar Tafawa Belewa University served as the secretary, presidential task force on power in 2011 while in service with the Ministry of Power.
He is a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Power Engineers, a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and registered member, council for the regulation of engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
