BUA Foods to boost local flour production with new milling capacity

In a move to enhance Nigeria’s food security and boost the local economy, BUA Foods Plc has partnered with Turkish manufacturing giant IMAS to significantly expand its milling operations. The agreement, signed recently, will see the construction of four new wheat and flour mills, adding a combined daily capacity of 3,200 tonnes to BUA’s production capabilities.
This development comes as BUA Foods intensifies efforts to cement its position as a key player in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. Since its listing on the Nigerian Exchange, the company has embarked on a series of ambitious projects aimed at addressing food challenges in the country. The new mills are expected to not only increase the availability of high-quality flour but also create numerous job opportunities across the nation.
The Chairman of BUA Foods Plc, Abdul Samad Rabiu, emphasised the importance of this expansion in a statement at the signing ceremony, highlighting the company’s commitment to improving food security in Nigeria.
“This partnership with IMAS is a testament to our dedication to improving food security in Nigeria. These new factories will significantly boost our capacity to continue to produce high-quality flour products while helping to create additional job opportunities across the country.
“This investment is a step towards our target of increasing our share of the Nigerian flour market. The addition of four mills will enable us to produce high-quality flour thereby offering us the flexibility to address various potential flour needs,” Rabiu stated.
The collaboration with IMAS, a leading provider of flour milling equipment, is also seen as a critical step in BUA Foods’ broader strategy to increase its market share and operational efficiency.
The Vice President of IMAS, Mustafa Ozdemir, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the project, noting that the new mills will play a crucial role in making affordable and nutritious food more accessible to the African population.
