Bright Sights outreach project provides free vision screenings to 220 pupils in Lagos

By Sodiq Adelakun

The Bright Sights Outreach Project, in collaboration with Pro-Optics Vision Specialists on Thursday provided free vision screenings to 220 pupils of Bethesda Primary School, Ikota in Lagos.

This initiative, founded by Muna Ubosi, is set to support less-privileged  children in Nigeria.

Ubosi, a long-time volunteer and sponsor of the Bethesda Child Support Foundation, was inspired to launch Bright Sights after witnessing the impact of vision problems on educational performance.

She noted that the foundation provides scholarships and builds tuition-free schools in poor communities, empowering disadvantaged children to reach their full potential.

In an interview with the Head teacher of the school, Onyeabor Ngozi Antonia, she said many parents lacked the resources to address their children’s eye problems, but the program has now met 100% of the students’ eye care needs.

Meanwhile, she made a passionate appeal to the Lagos State government to address the deplorable road conditions in the community.

“The road is our major challenge, Whenever it rains, we have to swim through the bad water to come to school, including our children. We urge the Lagos State government to fix the road, which will go a long way in helping us.” She added.

Also, Ijeoma Ubosi, mother of the founder of Bright Sights Outreach Project, Muna explained the objective of the initiative.

She said, “The goal is to help people who may not know they have vision issues, as it’s not always obvious. By detecting and addressing these issues, we hope to empower individuals to reach their full potential.”
