Brave survivor escapes assassination attempt following heated online political agitations
In a harrowing incident that underscores the lingering tensions from the 2023 General election, Mr. Fejuku Solomon Rotimi, a staunch supporter of the LP, narrowly escaped a deadly assassination attempt on the 6th of June, 2023. The attack, carried out by a group masquerading as prospective clients, left Rotimi severely injured but determined to continue his fight for justice and a better political landscape.
The aftermath of the contentious election had left the nation divided, and the case against the APC candidate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was still ongoing at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT). While the legal battle raged on, the online arena became a battleground for supporters of the two main opposition parties, the PDP and LP, as they engaged in heated agitations.
Mr. Rotimi’s unwavering commitment to the LP and his vocal support for the party online made him a target. Little did he know that danger was lurking just around the corner. On that fateful evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, a group of assailants arrived at Rotimi’s business premises in Atan, Sango-Ota. Armed with menacing weapons including clubs and machetes, they launched a brutal attack with the sinister intention of ending his life.
Miraculously, Rotimi managed to escape the clutches of his attackers, demonstrating quick thinking and resilience in the face of danger. It was later revealed that he had been aware of a potential abduction plot and had managed to evade the ambush, sparing himself from a potentially graver fate.
Since the attack, Rotimi has gone into hiding, adopting a cautious approach to safeguard his life and that of his immediate family. He emphasized his deep concerns about the volatile nature of political issues in Nigeria, especially in the aftermath of an election that saw innocent voters subjected to violence and disenfranchisement without adequate security protection.
