Borno government impose immediate 24hr curfew amid protest

The Borno State government has enacted a 24-hour curfew across the state, effective immediately, in response to the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.
The curfew, intended to curb the spread of protests, was announced on Thursday by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command. Daso mentioned that a formal statement regarding the curfew will be issued soon.

Earlier on today , police in Abuja, the nation’s capital, used teargas against demonstrators participating in the #EndBadGovernance protests, which were driven by concerns over the deteriorating economic situation. The protests, initially held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, moved to Eagle Square just before a deadline imposed by the police commissioner.

Protesters voiced their dissatisfaction with Police Commissioner Benneth Igwe’s order to relocate their peaceful assembly inside the stadium. They resisted, arguing they were not obstructing traffic and could not move into the stadium. Human rights lawyer Mr. Deji Adeyanju informed the commissioner that the court order permitted protests at the National Stadium, not inside it specifically. Protesters also expressed concerns about potential damage to the stadium and the blame being unfairly placed on them.
