The Executive Secretary Benue State Scholarship Board (BSSB), Igbe Isaac Ph.D has debunked the speculations making a round that the Board is planning to surcharge students who applied for scholarship for the repairs of the destroyed property belonging to the Scholarship Board  by the Students.

Igbe also described the speculations making a round as a figment of the speculators imagination, which according to him is false, baseless and unfounded,  designed by people who never meant well for the State.

“Benue State Scholarship Board is a government property, I am  appointed and mandated by the Governor to steer it’s affairs and the Governor knows my capabilities what ever distruction done by the Students in the process of the scholarship application,at the end of the sale of forms a report will be written and submit to the Governor for appropriate action”, Dr. Igbe stated.

Dr. Igbe made this known while fielding questions from Journalists about the recent riot embarked upon by Benue Students at the Scholarship  board, explained that the riot by the students started as a result of the students refusal to respect the orderly partten put in place by the board to ensure quick and smooth submission and sell of  Scholarship forms to the crowded students according to their respective institution which also failed.

According to him, the Governor has approved the sell 2018/2019 scholarship forms for Benue State students for the category of undergraduate, post – graduate and Higher National Diploma and the board went on radio to advertised the process which attracted crowd of students.

“It started when the board saw that the entire board premises was jam-packed with the crowd of students cut across tertiary institutions in the state and initiated an idea of dealing with one Institution after another.

“To my greatest surprise with the presence of the security operatives the Vigilante, SSS and the police, these students still resist the board’s directives and resorted to destroying scholarship board property and we decided to suspend activities relating to the sells of scholarship forms for two days,” He stated.

The scholarship board boss who disclosed that the negative perception about the board by members of the  public in the past has remained the major challenge confronting the board, followed by paucity of funds and assured that it will become a thing of the past under his watch in no distant time with the restoration of the lost glory of the board.

On the issue raised by the students that the Executive Secretary directed the security agencies to tier gassed them, the ES submitted that the security agencies are Federal Government outfits and were not answerable to his directives but to the directive of their superiors which he was not one.

Dr. Igbe advised members of the public to disregard rumors that are designed to tarnish the image of the scholarship board rather they should come to the board for any clarification as the board was running an open door policy and willing to welcome everyone that comes with a problem relating to scholarship.

He stated that in the past the students  pay the sum of N1100 for a scholarship application form but with the assumption of Office by Governor Samuel Ortom the fee for scholarship forms has reduced to N500 while the scholarship allowance itself  is increased by one hundred percent cut across the category of students.
