…As the State Council resolves to enforce membership qualification law soon

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council has commended the national leadership of NUJ under the able watch of Mr. Chris Isuguzo for taking the bold step by giving a nod to the upgrade of membership qualification which had already taken effect.
The commendation contained in a communique signed by Kajo Martins, the chairman Communique Drafting Committee for the NUJ Chairman issued at the monthly Congress of NUJ , Benue State Council held on Tuesday 28th February,2023.
The Council commended the Chris Isuguzo led NUJ and its decision arrived at, at the Special Convention held in Kano State which upgraded the minimum qualifications of the profession from Diploma to Bachelor Degree or HND.
The union also commended Nigerians for trooping out in their numbers to perform their civic responsibility on 25th February, 2023 in electing the next president and members of the national assembly across the states.
It noted with happiness that Benue people conducted themselves in an orderly manner during the exercise and implored them to sustain same in the forthcoming governorship and state Houses of Assembly election holding on 11th March, 2023.
Congress called on the umpire body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to remain neutral and improve on its performance ahead of the governorship polls.
The union advised candidates that lost at the polls during the last general election to accept the outcome of the result, or alternatively seek redress at the election petition tribunal soon to be set up.
The NUJ also called on leaders of various political parties to hold their supporters to account by restraing them from songs that tend to injure opponents that lost their bid.
Congress acknowledged the efforts of the security agencies especially, the Nigerian Police Force for ensuring law and order during the presidential and national assembly election in the state.
The union commended the Chief Security Officer and governor of the state, Samuel Ortom for ensuring security of lives and property, during and after victory celebration on the streets of the state unhindered.
Congress resolved to enforce the new law as soon as the new constitution is made available to the council and thumped up members for exhibiting high sense of professionalism in the state.
