Benue Govt to establish Public Service Institute to boost capacity of workers

The Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has disclosed that the State’s Executive Council has approved the establishment of Benue Public Service Institute (BPSI), for the training of Benue State Civil Servants particularly the local government staff.

Speaking via his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula on Thursday, the Governor explained that the decision of the exco was premise on the fact for over 30 years some staff of the Benue state civil service have not had the opportunity to receive additional training that will equipped them in their respective disciplines for more productivity.

According to him, the council also approved the restructuring of some  ministries to blend on the same page with what is obtainable at the government centre.

He stated that the restructured ministries are known as follows; “Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development, Ministry of Power, Renewable Energy and Transport.

“Others are; Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Agriculture, and Food Security, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.”

The State executive council also approved the construction of one rural road in each of the three senatorial Districts in the state in other words known as zones  A, B and c in 2024.

It could be recalled that on his assumption of office on May 29th 2023, the governor of Benue state Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia  approved and awarded a contract for the construction of 16 roads within Makurdi metropolis, some of the roads are already completed awaiting commissioning while others are at various levels of completion and have decided to shift the development of the road network to the rural areas.

Council also approved the construction of an overhead bridge at the Wurukum roundabout in Makurdi, the state capital.

He also disclosed that the council appreciated the vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria His Excellency Kashim Shettima GCON for visiting the state; with good intentions that would have direct bearing on the lives of Benue people such as the establishment of the world class fashion hub by the federal government in the state.

“This will go a long way in cushioning unemployment and provide job opportunities to the unemployed; teaming youths of the state.”

Relatedly following the level of insecurity at local government areas of the state, the governor of Benue state Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia cautioned the local government caretaker committees that henceforth they should remain in their duty post even though their respective lodges were inhabitable for now but the state government is making modalities to ensure that they get accommodation in their local government councils.

“By settling in their respective LGAs will help them familiarise themselves with the traditional leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders in order to be armed with necessary information that will assist them fight insecurity,” he stressed.
