BENCCIMA urges EDSG to rescind decision on Trade Fair land

The Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA) has appealed to Edo Government to rescind its decision on revocation of its trade fair land.

Mrs Aina Omo-Ojeonu, President of BENCCIMA, made the appeal during the 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Chamber held in Benin on Tuesday.

Omo-Ojeonu was elected the new President at the AGM.

In her acceptance speech, the new president said the state government revoked the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the trade fair land belonging to the chamber without due considerations.

She said the chamber set up a legal team that had to revive the land matter with a view to proceeding with further necessary action.

The president assured of the chamber’s cordial working relationship with the state government to improve industrial and commercial opportunities for business owners.

“My dream is to build a chamber of exemplary transparency, liberality, utmost trust among members to encourage free communication of ideas and business information among members, researchers, investors and academic analysts,’’ Omo-Ojeonu said.

In her remarks, Mrs Helen Atekha-Odemwingie, outgoing president of the chamber, commended members for their support during her tenure.

She listed some of her achievements to include putting the trade fair land into more economic use, renovation of the Police Post and Health Centre at the trade fair premises among others.

Also, Kevin Uwaibi, Head, Edo Investment Promotion Office, urged the chamber to leverage more on technology to make its activities more visible.

“BENCCIMA is a business entity that is waxing strong and can move the state’s private sector forward.

“We need to join hands to take Edo state forward through our engagements and initiatives,” Uwaibi said.
