Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has frozen the accounts of the State Government and local government in the state.
Analysts say that the action may not be unconnected with the impending vacation of office by Bello following the expiration of his term by January 2024.
Ahmed Usman Ododo, the All Progressives Congress candidate and winner of the Kogi November Guber election is expected to succeed Bello in office.
The announcement, conveyed by the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, outlines a strict prohibition on any payments or imprests from the accounts.
The statement explicitly nullifies all “Standing Orders and Investment Instructions” immediately.
Idris noted that the blanket freeze applies to Kogi State and Local Government Accounts starting Thursday, November 23, 2023.
