The Management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc has donated musical instruments to members of Sapele Choral Musical Group, in Delta.
The representative of BEDC management and Head Community Engagement and Special Project, Mr Curtis Nwadei, on Thursday in Sapele said the gesture was part of BEDC’s Corporate Social Rsponsibility (CSR).
Nwadei noted that the donation was also in line with the company’s strategy aimed at contributing toward the development of its host community.
Nwadei said, “we know the importance of music, (Psalm 98 vs 5-6, Sing praises on the harp to our God).
“We have the obligation and responsibility to ensure that our business is not just to provide electricity to people, but also support people in the community where we operate.
“CSR in BEDC is for us to get closer to our customers and we are urging you to also support BEDC in return by encouraging each other as BEDC customers to pay your electricity bills.
“We believe in supporting social programmes under our CSR initiative by patnering with groups such as Sapele Choral Musical Group.”
Responding, The founder of Sapele Chorals, Sir Sunny Omatseye, commended BEDC for the kind gesture.
Omatsaye, represented by the director of the chorals, Mrs Racheal Arenyeka, noted that the musical instruments would inspire the group to propagate the gospel of Christ to mankind.
According to Omatseye, the choral group is inter-denominational from churches within Delta, an initiative aimed at empowering the youth through music to make them relevant in the society.
“it is usually a great relief when corporate organisations like BEDC come out to contribute to the efforts of willing Nigerians who are truly ready to give the youth the best.
“This instrument will keep them busy instead of roaming round streets aimlessly and by so doing getting themselves involved in unworthy acts detrimental to the growth of our nation,” he said.
Omatsaye assured BEDC that the musical group would carry out enlightenment campaigns to educate the people on the importance of paying electricity bills promptly.
