Benin Electricity Distribution Plc (BEDC) says it has begun the enumeration of all metered and unmetered customers in order to deploy meters and transformers in its franchise states.
This is contained in a statement issued by Head, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Enumeration, BEDC, Dr Felix Nkeki, and made available to journalists on Wednesday in Benin.
BEDC operates in Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti States.
Nkeki said the enumeration was aimed at gathering accurate information about its customers and eliminating estimated billing.
He said that the exercise was geared toward improving accuracy of billing, quality supply, prompt response to fault and proper planning of network expansion.
Nkeki appealed to customers to cooperate with the enumerators who would be going to premises in the four states by responding promptly to request for completion of enumeration forms.
The head of GIS added that the exercise was in compliance with the directive from Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
“The exercise will serve as an opportunity to access and accurately deploy transformers and other electrical fittings to our customers.
“The information required is not sensitive. They include landlord and tenants’ names, contact information, house numbers, street names and addresses, amongst others,” he said.
The Managing Director of BEDC, Henry Ajagbawa, had, during a recent visit to the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, solicited support for enumeration in Delta communities.
Ajagbawa said that the exercise was targeted at ascertaining the actual number of its customers and the unmetered population.
