Be guided by the spirit of NYSC oath of allegiance — DG enjoins Corps members

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Shuaibu Ibrahim, has enjoined corps members to be guided by the spirit and letters of the NYSC Oath of Allegiance.

Ibrahim, while declaring open the 2021 Batch ‘B’ (Stream II) Orientation Course on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ikare-Akoko, Ondo state said the orientation course is meant to prepare the corps members physically and mentally for the expected contributions to the progress and development of the fatherland.

The Director General who was represented by the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Victoria Nnenna Ani, however, declared that mobilisation of corps members was anchored on the promotion of national unity and integration.

Ibrahim said that the presence of corps members in the camp is an opportunity of a lifetime and therefore enjoined them to participate actively in all the programmes in other to succeed.

“May I also stress that you have been deliberately assembled from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds to enable you begin, right from here, the performance of your much-envisaged roles in the promotion of national unity and integration,” he said.

He, therefore, encouraged the members of the service corps to ensure healthy interactions, exchange ideas that would broaden their understanding of the country and build lasting friendships.

The NYSC boss, added that the corps members should meditate on the solemn and patriotic content of the NYSC Oath of Allegiance, Act and the Bye-laws.

Ibrahim further urged them to get involved in the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme which is meant to equip them with entrepreneurial skill for self employment and wealth creation as opposed to searching endlessly for scarce white collar jobs.

“I also encourage you to present yourselves for the COVID-19 vaccination whenever it is made available in or out of the orientation camp,” he said.
