Bauchi Institute to tackle bullying in schools

The Attah Sisters Helping Hands Foundation (ASHHF) Institute of Peace Building in Bauchi says it is set to fight bullying and by-standing among students.

Newsmen reports that on Nov. 2022, the Institute graduated 15 first set of students on peace building and curbing bullying in schools in the state.

Mrs Comfort Attah, Proprietor of the Institute, said this in an interview with Newsmen on Tuesday in Bauchi, warning that bullying remains pervasive and a source of concern for education stakeholders.

She called on stakeholders in the education sector to enforce policies that would help school children shun bullying.

Mrs Attah, who is also the African representative on Bully and Peace Building in Nigeria, explained the  projection of the institute to reach out to the public schools and communities in future.

“We graduate 15 first set of the students who were vigorously grilled on curbing bullying in schools and peace building.

“The intervention will reach out to at least 750 pupils. The short-term goal is to train 100 teachers in a year and reach out to 1,000 children students,” she said.

The Proprietor said the Institute is committed to taking the campaign against bullying to schools in order to create more awareness,

“She admonished pupils to shun bullying and focus more on their studies rather than engaging in any form of bullying.

She noted that bullying occurs in schools and among teens, urging parents and educators not to wait till the issue gets out of control before addressing it.

Attah advised teachers to pay close attention to the pupils, especially when they notice any abnormality or signs of withdrawal from the child.

She, however, appreciated her mentor, instructor and benefactor, Dr. Jean Webster-Doyle, and Dr. Terrance Webster, for their support and encouragement to sustain the institute.
