The Bauchi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed one of the commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Bala Mohammed on Tuesday, following the withdrawal of five other nominees.
One of the nominees, Usman Usman Shehu, who was in Germany, was unable to attend the screening in person due to flight restrictions. This led the House to conduct the screening via Zoom, allowing for virtual questioning.
Usman Shehu, a native of Giade Local Government Area in the state, began his education in Islamic studies before proceeding to primary and secondary schools in Bauchi State. The Germany-based Nigerian later completed his university education in Nigeria before moving abroad.
Despite his physical absence, the screening process proceeded smoothly, with lawmakers asking insightful questions and receiving responses from the nominee.
The House confirmed Shehu as a commissioner, affirming his competence and readiness to serve the people of the state.
The use of the Zoom platform for legislative screening marks a significant innovation in the history of Bauchi State’s legislature.
