Bartender in court for allegedly misappropriating employer’s N126, 500

A 28-year-old bartender, Ifeanyi Ibekwe, on Tuesday appeared in a Grade I Area Court, Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly misappropriating N126,500 belonging to his employer.

The police charged Ibekwe with criminal misappropriation and theft.

The prosecution counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Ejike Godwin, reported the matter at the Byazhin Police Station on Feb. 5.

Okpa said that the defendant, who worked with the complainant as a bartender for one month and three days, was unable to give account of N126,500 being money for assorted alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks,

The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 309 and 289 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The judge, Mr Muhammad Adamu, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Adamu also ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce means of identification.

He adjourned the case until March 9 for hearing.
