An immigration officer has been killed while two others sustained serious injuries in an attack by bandits in Jigawa State.
The immigration officers, who were on border patrol, were attacked around 11:20pm on Tuesday along Galadi village in Birniwa Local Government of the state.
The State Comptroller, Ismail Abba Aliyu, confirmed the incident on Wednesday in a press briefing with journalists.
According to him, five of the bandits, who were on two motorcycles and armed with dangerous weapons attacked the immigration officials on patrol.
On exchange of fire with the bandits, one officer, CIA AbduIlahi was killed while Abba Musa with his friend, Zubairu Garba, sustained serious injuries, and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Aliyu said that no arrest has been made. However, two motorcycles and one handset belonging to the bandits were recovered from the scene, which have been handed over to Jigawa Police command for further investigation.
He alleged that the suspected bandits are from Niger Republic because the registration number of their motorcycles is from the country and the place where the incident occurred is two kilometres’ drive to Niger Republic.
He, therefore, appealed to the people of the state to assist the immigration officers and other security agencies in exposing the criminals.
