Bandits kill grandparents over denial of forceful marriage with granddaughter

The family of Mr. Olatunji Ekundayo has been in disarray following the murder of his father and mother for denying the hand of his daughter in marriage to a terrorist gang leader.

It’s reported that on the 15th of April, 2023,  a terrorist gang leader named Baba, while terrorising Shinkafi area met a girl and demanded  to be directed to her home, which was obliged.

At the girl’s house, where lived a family of six at 20, Yakubu Street, Shinkafi, Zamfara State, Baba allegedly told the parents he wanted the hand of the girl in marriage. This was bluntly turned down by the father of the girl.

The gang leader told the family to perform her circumcision as the tradition demands, if it had not been done, as he would be coming back later in the day to marry the girl forcefully in company of his gang members.

True to his word, he went back to the house later in the day asking for the girl and her father. It was the grandfather and grandmother of the girl whom they met outside that attended to them, claiming that the girl and her father were not around.

This angered the gang, and in their fury, they shot dead the grandparents.

The incident has made the remaining family members to escape for their lives.

The case has been reported at the Police Station in an attempt to locate them. But up till now, their whereabouts remain unknown.

The names of the four of them are given as: Olatunji Ekundayo Oyebanji (father), Yemisi Hassan (mother), Folashade Adunni (the targeted girl) and a boy of 2 years and four months, named Montell Oreoluwa Oyebanji.

The general public is hereby notified of the incident, and anyone with useful information as to their whereabouts should please not hesitate to inform the police.
