Bandits kill 15 farmers, injure 3 in Kebbi community attack
At least 15 farmers have been killed and three others injured in a brutal attack by suspected bandits on Waje community in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, local officials confirmed.
The assault has prompted a prompt response from the state government. Governor Nasir Idris, represented by his deputy, Umar Tafida, led a condolence visit to the grieving community on behalf of the administration.
Tafida met with the District Head of Waje, Bala Danbaba, to express the government’s sympathy and deliver financial aid to the families of those affected by the attack.
He described the support as a modest but sincere effort from the state to ease the burden on the bereaved and injured families during what he called “a deeply painful time.”
Tafida also gave his word that the state government would implement firm measures to curb insecurity in the area and ensure that local farmers can safely return to their agricultural activities without fear.
In response, District Head Bala Danbaba thanked the state delegation for the visit and described the financial support as both timely and meaningful. He drew attention to the geographical exposure of Danko Wasagu, stating that its shared borders with Niger, Zamfara and Sokoto States leave it vulnerable to frequent raids. He appealed for heightened security at key border routes to prevent further incursions.
Confirming the attack, Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu Bena, said 15 people were killed and three others wounded when the bandits invaded the farming community.
