Mushin Local Government, Lagos, was abuzz with gratitude as Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, the Executive Chairman, celebrated the retirement of Comrade Sogo Osikoya and 34 other council staff at a special event on October 29, 2024.
The ceremony, held at the council secretariat, highlighted the invaluable contributions of these individuals to the community.
In his address, Bamigboye commended the leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (Mushin Branch) and acknowledged their patience and wisdom in navigating challenges with the management.
He expressed gratitude for their maturity during the recent “End Bad Governance” protests, urging them to continue advocating for their rights through constructive dialogue rather than destructive actions.
“Let us avoid being used by anyone to destroy the heritage and assets of Lagos State government. Such acts will not solve our problems,” Bamigboye stated emphatically.
He encouraged staff to leave a legacy of integrity and perseverance, praising Osikoya for his intelligence and effective crisis management.
In recognition of their dedicated service, the retirees received generous gifts, including televisions, gas cookers, and tabletop fridges.
Osikoya, in his response, thanked the chairman and the entire council for their support throughout his tenure, reflecting on the collaborative spirit that defined his time in office.
The event also saw staff presenting Bamigboye with an award for his exceptional leadership and commitment to their welfare.
Dignitaries from the Local Government Service Commission and the Ministry of Establishment and Training were in attendance, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
Among those present were Vice Chairman Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, Leader of the Legislative Arm Hon. Olawale Ayegbayo, and the former leader now Oba of Odi Olowo, HRM. Oba Sikirulai Olamide Williams, along with other council officials and staff, marking a day of unity and appreciation in Mushin Local Government.
