Baga Resettlement: 26th September deadline sacrosanct, high powered committee assures


The high powered committee on Baga Resettlement set up by Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, returned to Baga 48 hours after their earlier visit. The committee also assured of 26th September as the date for the return of people to Baga.

The committee under the leadership of Borno’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice. Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan with top officials including the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) Engr. Mustapha Gubio , Engr Tijani Alkali Goni Commissioner for Water resources , Hon. Sugun Mai mele Commissioner for LGs and Emirates Affairs , Representiives of the Theatre Commander , Representative of the Naval Staff, Representative of the Commandant NSCDC , Hon. Karuna Kukawa Member representing Kukawa in the State Assembly , Alhaji Omar Idriss who is the Secretary of the committee, among others.

The committee had in their earlier visit spent two days in Baga town after criss crossing Monguno and Cross Kauwa in company of Brig Gen A B Ishaq of the theatre Command Lafiya Dole, and members were received by Brigadier General UC Onyebuchi of 19 Brigade Baga .

Chairman of the committee Barr Kaka Shehu lawan with some members of the Committee took round Baga town to inspect the ongoing reconstruction and clearance of flash points, whereby houses, hospitals , water facilities and school, Police Station and security staffs quarters have reached advanced stage .

The Chairman also led the committee to assess the Airtel Network sub stations within Baga town  and Cross Kauwa, announced during the inspection that arrangements has been reached with the network service providers such as Airtel and others to restore GSM telecommunication in the towns .

“The state government had earlier written to the Nigerian Army, and have fixed 26th of September as a possible return date of our people to Baga, and also gave references to Governor Zulum visit to GSM Service providers headquarters last week in Abuja,” Barr Kaka Shehu said.

He added, “We are here to inspect the level of work assiduously with a view to actualize the return of people back to Baga on the 26th of September,” also adding, “this administration of Governor Babagana Zulum will not hesitate to release all the necessary funds required for the implementation of the return.”

The General Manager Borno State Environmental Protection Agency BOSEPA Hon. Nasiru Surundi Jakadan Talakawa was in company of the committee to commence the fumigation excercise in Baga town. A technical Engineer of Airtel telecommunication was also with the committee and has assessed the damages and assured to restore the network services in two weeks time after his interface with the Brigade commander 19 Brigade Baga.
