Babcock University now a target of smear campaign, VC raises alarm

By Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Prof Ademola Stephen Tayo has raised alarm over what he described as calculated attempt by some group of people to launch smear campaign against the university out of sheer envy for its modest achievements and success story.

Prof Ademola stated that some of the competitors of the schools who are still struggling to admit 100 students would definitely not be happy that the university recently matriculated almost 3000 students for its various undergraduate programmes and about 620 postgraduate students and has therefore resorted to sponsoring false and degrading report about the school on social media.

He opined that qualitative education which the university was noted for coupled with the excellent products the school had kept churning out and who have been making waves across the globe were enough reasons to rattle some group of people who were quite shocked at the continuous rising of the Adventist owned institution said to be affliated with about 125 universities and colleges around the world.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed this while speaking on a purported report circulating online where in the university was said to be the third ranked worse university in Nigeria coming after Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso and Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ago Iwoye while Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) completed the circle as the 4th worse university.

Addressing some selected journalists at media luncheon held at the guest house of the university, Prof Ademola said such report were obviously baseless as they were never product of any scientific research or survey but outright falsehood being pushed out to malign the image of the institution out of envy.

He said this would however not deter the management of the school to continue to match the international benchmark in wholistic education and continue to produce products that would lift the name of the school higher and help to solve some of the world problems.

Prof Ademola said the school decided to expell one of its 300 level Accounting female students caught in a viral sex video recently because of the school zero tolerance to immorality and conducts unbecoming of world class future leaders being bred by the school.

He revealed further that many parents have called to thank the management of the school for applying the right douse of discipline saying that they would have rather opted to withdraw their children if the university had not taken a decisive measure over the shameful and horrible act.

Prof Ademola said though he was still in touch with the family as he recently prayed for them explaining that it was still not good to throw away the baby and the bathwater.

He added that the university has continued on the path of excellence producing 10 first class at Nigeria Law School about two weeks ago while another Second Class Upper graduate of the institution, Barr Muyiwa Abiru was the 2019 overall best graduating student.

While thanking the media for being part of the success story of the 20 years old university, Prof Ademola called for more collaborations pledging that his administration would remain committed to flying higher the flag of excellence noted with the institution.
