Babcock churns out 2548 graduates, 110 First Class

The Babcock University, Ilisan Remo during its 20th convocation ceremony held on Sunday churned out 2548 graduands out of which 110 of them made first class.

The school also recorded highest number of postgraduate graduands recording 312 and 159 for Masters and Doctoral programmes respectively.

Sotunde-Adesina Myron from the department of International Law and Diplomacy with the CGPA of 4.21 emerged as the overall best student in leadership, academics, community and spiritual services while Idowu Khadijat Damilola from Social Work department has the overall highest CGPA of 4.91.

Congratulating the graduands for a job well done, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Ademola Stephen Tayo has however cautioned the graduands not to see their triumph of today as an assurance for years to come.

The Vice Chancellor has therefore charged the newly baked graduates to face the future with the determination of making positive impacts nationally and globally.

Addressing further the graduands termed the Onyx graduating class, Prof Tayo said “I wish to remind you of the meaning of your name which is a precious stone with many adorable colours. I plead that you should present yourselves to the world at large as precious individuals destined to rule the world and bring about positive change in this unpredictable and complex world.

“As you graduate today, be wise as serpent and gentle as dove. Do not fear to make a difference and create the type of world you want to live in. Do not lose focus even in the face of trials and temptations. Claim the promise of God as contained in Isa 45:2.

“Do not also forget your parents, guardians and your lecturers too who toiled day and night to ensure your success out of this institution. Above all, be excellent ambassadors of Babcock University wherever you find yourself”.

The Vice Chancellor revealed that though it might be tough, the university remained committed to pursuing those lofty ideals and goals that would always make the Seventh Day Adventist institution ranked among the leading universities globally.

Prof Tayo disclosed that aside the fact that all the 36 courses being run by the institution are fully accredited by the relevant authorities, the university had also recorded giant strides in infrastructural development with the construction and commissioning of three hall of residences with capacity for over 1500 students.

Others are construction of a Bio-digester for the processing and treatment of liquid and solid wastes from student halls of residence, offices, staff residential quarters converting them to bio gas to power electricity, a new radiology building equipped with modern Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) the first of its kind in Ogun State, performance of over 959 open heart surgeries up to date at its teaching hospital with about 95% success rate to mention but few.
